RESUMO

Elastomeric expansion joint can be used as part of a piping system to insure its continuous service during and after an earthquake. The system utilizing expansion joints can be designed to accept the articipated seismic deflections specified by the engineer of record. A computer generated dynamic analysis can also be performed on the system model for verification of survivability. Whether an optimal solution is developed through a computer program or a simple design is acquired based on anticipated deflections, the expansion joints can be an integral part of protecting the piping system in the event of an earthquake. This will, in turn, save lives and property (AU)
